SYRIAN soldiers backed by tanks stormed the city of Hama yesterday, killing at least 62 people, Al Arabiya television reported.
Dozens of people were wounded, the television network said, citing human rights activists it didn't identify.
''They are firing at all directions,'' a witness identified only as Ahmed said in a live interview with Al Jazeera television. Sounds of gunfire and people screaming could be heard as he talked. Footage broadcast by Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya showed columns of black smoke billowing from the city.
