A former minister, Arcado Ntagazwa (65) and two others on Monday appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam charged with obtaining 74.95m/- by false pretence.
State Attorney Ladislaus Komanya alleged that on October 22, 2009 at Msasani Mikoroshini area in Dar es Salaam, with intent to defraud, Senator Miselya (60), Ntagazwa and Dr Webhale Ntagazwa obtained 5,000 caps and 5,000 t-shirts worth 74.95m/- belonging to Mr Noel Severe.
It is further alleged that the accused had promised to pay the owner of the said goods within one month when they knew that they were not speaking the truth. The accused pleaded not guilty and two of them – Arcado Ntagazwa and Webhale Ntagazwa – managed to get bail after securing two sureties who signed 12m/- bond each.
The case was adjourned to May 7 for another mention. Meanwhile, a Guinea Bissau national yesterday appeared before the same court charged with trafficking 1.7 kilogrammes of heroin worth 57.8m/-. According to the State Attorney Esther Kyalo, the accused is Alberto Mendez (49), a businessman residing in Bamako, Mali.
The accused was not allowed to enter any plea or get bail. The case was adjourned to May 7 for another mention as police investigations are going on. According to the charge sheet, it is alleged that on April 15, this year at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Mendez was found trafficking 1.7 kilogrammes of heroin from Guinea Bissau to an unknown destination.
