Surprisingly, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benard Membe has ‘blamed’ the government for the small budget set in his budget which causes different challenges in its implementation.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Benard Kamilius MembeSpeaking in the Assembly this evening during the discussion on his Ministry budget, Membe said it is a big challenge to implement his budget due to the small amount of money given.
“I want to tell you the truth, last year in my budget I got only 44 percent of my whole budget. This year I ask from you only 42 percent of the budget, this is Tsh 97 Bil. It’s not fair, but it is the reality.”
Membe asked the Assembly to help him and his ministry to get the budget which will help them to have power in International relations especially the Tanzanian Embassies in those countries.
“Sure I tell you…if tomorrow I get the person who can run the ministry I will resign. This is very difficult job of asking money but you don’t get the actual budget you need. As the results you get challenges in running Tanzania’s Embassies.”
The Minister said the actual amount which they need for the running of the Ministry is more than Tsh 222 Bil, the amount which includes all costs needed for running Embassies.
Minister Benard Kamilius Membe born in 1953, who is also Mtama Province Representative, has been linked with rumors of contesting for Presidential post in 2015.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation budget which has estimation of Tsh 97 Bil has been approved this evening for the 2012/2013 year implementation.
