The search for Dr Kizza Besigye’s replacement as the Forum for Democratic Change party president is underway.

The party Deputy Spokesperson, Mr Toterebuka Bamwenda, revealed that the party has laid down a road map that will be followed to elect the new party president. “We have started with ensuring that all vacant seats in all the new districts are filled. After that we are going to hold a national council meeting that will lead to the nomination of all FDC members interested in this position plus the start of their campaigns.” Mr Bamwenda said at the FDC head offices in Kampala yesterday.
“At the national council meeting we shall also get the agenda for the delegates conference that will be held three months after the national council meeting. It is in the delegates conference that Dr Besigye’s replacement will be chosen,” he added.
Mr Bamwenda said at the moment, a number of people are intending to contest for the seat for party presidency though he refused to give their names. However, Mr Bamwenda said that the date for the national council meeting has not yet been communicated citing lack of funds for the exercise.
The Deputy Spokesperson also refuted claims that Dr Besigye had relinquished his power ahead of his resignation. “Let me put the record straight; Dr Besigye has not stepped aside. He is still the party president. He will step aside after giving the instruments of power to the incoming president,” Mr Bamwenda said.
Meanwhile, Mr Wafula Oguttu, the FDC Spokesperson has dismissed claims that there are internal battles raging within the party for the seat, saying the process is very “smooth” and that there are no battles at all since no one has been nominated by the party.
