Tana leaders meet Haji over massacre

A high powered security delegation has arrived in Tana river following deadly clashes that left over 50 people dead and several others injured. 

The delegation led by Police commissioner Mathew Iteere, includes AP commandant Kinuthia Mbugua and the provincial security officers. Tension remained high in the area as police patrolled the affected villages in Reketa area. 

The death toll of those killed in Tana Delta clashes has risen to 52 after four of the injured succumbed to injuries at Mpeketoni Hospital. Police say among those killed are 31 women and 11 children and six men. 

Police said tension had been building between the two communities for more than two weeks, but there was no immediate warning on the Wednesday night attacks. Clashes over pasture have been recurrent in this region.
